According to this story, American Christians don't give much evidence of spiritual maturity, at least as defined and measured by this particular survey.
However, it's my opinion that the best measure of spiritual maturity is not measured by performance but by character. I believe the best measure of spiritual maturity is what Paul calls "the fruit of the Spirit." In Galatians 5:22-23 he states that the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self-control.
It seems to me that the best indicator of a person who is growing toward spiritual maturity is the evidence of these character traits. In other words, spiritual maturity is not so much what you do as it is who you are.
